TECHNICAL MANAGER (WATER) AT Ismani Water User Association

Ismani Water User Association (IWUA) is the first association of Tanzania managing a water system supply. At present the association is collaborating with two Italians Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO), MLFM and AVSI, for the rehabilitation of the Ismani water scheme in the districts of Iringa Rural and Kilolo within the project titled “Improving on the water resources access and management for the rural population in Iringa Region, Tanzania”, funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Iringa region and the two NGOs.

IWUA is therefore seeking to recruit 1 individual for the following position

Technical Manager

Job Purpose

To manage the Ismani water system supply following the rules and regulations of the Ismani Water Users Association (IWUA), supplying, managing and maintaining clean water and water services and preventing flood damage.

Report to: Chairman of Ismani Water User Association, MLFM and AVSI Representatives

Duty station: Ismani-Khiorogota, Iringa – Tanzania

Salary: attractive salary

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

managing and maintaining water infrastructure operations

managing the water station treatment

liaising with members of association, village committees, government agencies, local authorities and suppliers

keeping up-to-date with changes in regulatory legislation, regulation/constitution of the association, etc and supporting the association on this

monitoring flood levels

supervising staff and site workers

ensuring that the association  keep to budgets and timescales

supervising the payments of water bills

presenting project details and technical information to association/local authorities

designing water supply schemes

writing reports

managing budgets

writing and advertising tender documents and managing contracts

maintaining awareness of current environmental issues.

Qualification and Skills required

Diploma in Water Supply and sanitation Engineering, or  in a subject such as mechanical engineering,  civil engineering

Previous experience of at least 3  years in a similar position

Fluency in English - both spoken and written

excellent analytical skills

team work

problem solving

time management

IT skills

communication skills

able to demonstrate a genuine knowledge and interest of the water industry and environmental issues

availability to work in rural area
